Objectives
Flagship
At the core of Learning Equality’s work from its founding is closing the digital divide by providing access to quality learning experiences to those traditionally unable to access the wealth of learning opportunities and relevant content available online. Learning Equality’s unwavering commitment to addressing the equity challenges faced by learners in low-resource, low-connectivity contexts is stronger now during the COVID-19 pandemic than ever before.
Social distancing and school closures have forced some additional creativity in terms of how learners and educators access Kolibri and relevant content. What we can do is to continue to develop usable public goods that support learning for the most marginalized, bring together and leverage related complementary efforts, and advocate for what we know to be important in bridging the digital divide which includes availability of relevant openly licensed content, interoperable tools that leverage existing hardware, and alignment of resources to national curriculum.

Commitment
In response to COVID-19, Learning Equality’s unwavering commitment to addressing the equity challenges faced by learners in low-resource contexts is stronger now than ever before. Our five part strategy for our COVID-19 response centers around our Open Source learning platform, Kolibri, that is specially designed to provide offline access to a curated and openly licensed educational content library with tools for pedagogical support for use in low-resource and low-connectivity contexts.
This response includes providing implementation and pedagogical support for use of Kolibri at home; expanding the availability of aligned supplemental digital resources; developing a Kolibri feature set responsive to needs during COVID, provisioning devices and supporting hardware distribution programs; and focusing on collaborations that meet learner needs in low-resource contexts. This strategy enables us to support the Global Education Coalition’s mission.
Along with Coalition members, there are three areas where we can provide direct support in addition to making available our Kolibri ecosystem of products to support learning in low-resource, namely:
1. Sharing of our experiences with government and implementers on using technology for continuity of learning in low-resource contexts.
2. Curriculum efforts -- alignment, content distribution and cross-platform search; and
3. Supporting innovative distribution of interactive radio content and TV content
