The Institute is supporting governments to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on young people’s education and rebuild systems based on the latest evidence and technology. The Institute will provide online education solutions to help young people become global citizens, building empathy across boundaries and challenging misinformation, in a safe environment.

Connectivity
Close digital divides and enhance connectivity for education

Generation Global enhances connectivity between students and teachers through technology.

Our resources support educators and young people to interactively engage remotely, either during lockdowns or through continuing to provide blended learning opportunities during recovery phases.

Our teacher training offers five core skills of dialogue – global communication, active listening, critical thinking and identity awareness, asking questions and self-reflection – that can transform teaching styles and empower teachers to engage students in dialogue.

Our digital resources and expert-produced briefings give teachers the tools for safely connecting students in dialogue on difficult topics like extremism and hate speech. These skills are particularly needed now, with young people spending more time online than before and in need of skills that help them think critically and connect constructively with their peers.

Our new student-centred resources will be inclusive for students of different backgrounds and abilities and accessible in low bandwidth environments.

Commitment

The Institute’s international education programme, Generation Global, works in over 30 countries to support young people aged 13 to 17 to embrace their future, equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become active, global and open-minded citizens.

In response to COVID-19, we have developed an online student-centred pathway, called the Ultimate Dialogue Adventure, where students can learn the skills of dialogue and can practice these skills outside the classroom with their global peers using online dialogue spaces. We provide teachers with their own Teacher Portal, where they can explore resources, book dialogue videoconferences for their students, and access trainings to teach and develop the skills and competencies of dialogue in their learning communities.
