Objectives
Flagship
GÉANT represents Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) from 40 countries. Not-for-profit and mainly publicly funded, NRENs provide dedicated, high-speed Internet and value-added services for their knowledge institutions, facilitating global collaborative data-intensive research and innovative learning for over 50 million academics and researchers across Europe.
GÉANT has also been instrumental in setting up, supporting NRENs in other world regions including Latin America, Africa and Asia through a series of EU-funded regional projects over the past 15 years, that contributed to a global community of NRENs in over 130 countries. NRENs and their regional counterparts (RRENs) from around the globe operate physical telecoms networks that interconnect the R&E community such as the EU co-funded pan-European GÉANT network. Unlike ISPs, these networks are designed to provide non-stop connectivity without bottlenecks.

Commitment
GÉANT is a non-profit association established to provide a dedicated network and services for research and education in Europe and in many regions across the world.
Within Europe we connect National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) across 40 European countries, together connecting thousands of universities, schools, higher education institutes and research organisations. We are a trusted environment with a high level of expertise in connectivity, identity and federation, security and above the net services.
Services we deliver include openUp2U, an open-source based suite of tools to enable remote teaching and learning, and eduroam, a free wi-fi roaming service for students and teachers, with over 60,000 hotspots worldwide.
GÉANT is committed to continuing to support global collaborative research and learning and so our efforts do not stop at the borders of Europe. Globally we work with regional partners to enable the establishment and development of research and education networks in all countries of the world including those in Africa, Asia and Latin-America.
We offer to work together with the coalition members to support our common goals and vision for inclusion and equity in the continuity of education.
