LibreTexts provides cost free online access to over 2000 textbooks and other materials across the educational curriculum. Our community stepped up during the Covid-19 emergency providing new and better offerings and enhanced technology for using it and we are dedicated to continuing our efforts.

LibreTexts’ contributions would support the GEC Global Learning House Mission as well as other efforts. A primary concern of LibreTexts is developing mechanisms to overcome limited INTERNET connectivity issues. Our online libraries host over 450,000 pages of freely available OER content distributed over 2,000 open textbooks (https://commons.libretexts.org/libraries). We recognize the importance of building a comprehensive educational platform, which is reflected in our construction of ancillary technologies including a homework system (https://youtu.be/p-8FpHq2pIo) to accompany the textbooks. To distribute LibreTexts content in locations with little INTERNET connectivity, our online textbooks are available as PDF files, as low-cost printed books (through local publishers), and the EPUB3 export option will be available soon. Moreover, we have also built stand-alone “LibreTexts-in-a-box” systems based on low-cost Raspberry PIs computers enabled with portable wifi hotspots and solar cells.

LibreTexts mission is to unite students, faculty, and scholars in a cooperative effort to develop an easy-to-use online platform for the construction, customization, and dissemination of freely accessed OER content. LibreTexts is a non-profit public benefit corporation, incorporated in California, USA, but we are a global community of faculty at institutions of higher education. In the COVID emergency, the number of students using our platform has exploded with more than 250 million pageviews tracked last year (https://statistics.libretexts.org) and over 60% of this traffic originating from outside the United States. Thousands of higher education (and some secondary school) faculty have LibreTexts accounts enabling them to create custom texts for their courses and students. It is through these efforts, that LibreTexts provides educational resources and supports instruction at no cost to millions of students and teachers worldwide.
